Assignment Three: Strength, Weaknesses, Comments
The overall purpose of my video was to show my readers a difference of figured world between my first observation and my second observation. My second observation deals more with more actors and artifacts because I felt more confortable being in this figured world than the first figured world. The story I want to tell in this video is the kind of actors that are residing in the figured world and what they think about it. Readers will revisit some definitions from Bartlett and Holland, and also other definitions of informal/formal languages. Also other kinds of articles are incorporated into this video that talks about the material used for nails and manicurist licenses.
The strengths that I want viewers to notice is how I separated each part of my video into actors, literary practices, artifacts, and the main figured world. I thought I introduced my figured world nicely and incorporated all the definitions and articles that were needed. I think my video is entertaining and not dry because I did more interviews than the minimum of two that was needed. Also I added different sorts of music and even an Asian song to show this figured world is powered by Asian workers. I tried to add enough context in my video to describe certain parts of my video, so viewers wouldn’t be confused or asking self questions of what was going on.
The weakness that I think my video has is not giving the full understanding of the narrative that is happening. I wanted to show the different kind of characters that comes in the nail salon, so I interviewed a lot of people. I don’t think that was enough describing the narrative because I think I was asking some of the wrong questions. My actors gave me a lot of feedback about how they enjoy the atmosphere that the figured world has and why they come. Another flaw I think my video has is the time length of my photos. I don’t know if my photos are being shown too long or too short because each photo has a different time length, so some photos might go on too long. I don’t think I added enough of the articles I found in my video and my sound seems to be hard to hear.
Some of the comments I received really helped my video. One of my peer said that some of my contexts were really length and hard to read, so I practically changed and shorten a lot of my description. I completely forgot adding articles, so she reminded me and actually helped me get the minimum time length that I needed. I really didn’t know how to make my transitions better because I didn’t really know how to use the special effects of the iMovie app. I thought some of the comments were bad because my sound was pretty low because the volume was put on loud enough and I didn’t know how to make my interviews louder unless I put my volume up to 100%.
