Overall Reflection
Ever since taking English 1102, I have peeled off the rotten layers of my writing and have reach to the core of where my writing seems to ripen. Going through each homework assignment and forums, my writing has seem to flown over the wall that has block my writing process from it’s full potential. By doing multiple writings on actors, literacy practices, figured world, and artifacts, I have molded my new potential into a stepping-stone where it will give me a better stance in my other upcoming Writing classes. Furthermore by reading Richard Straubb’s article about responding to writers and doing peer work shopping, I am able to build a railing for other writers on their stepping stones to support them, so that they have a grasp on their writing as they step forward to other writings.
I feel like there are some of the materials that I have gone above and beyond in my assignments. For example in creating my portfolio, I made all my three major writing assignments into a blog. A blog is a creative idea where I can post my writing, and use all the comments I had gotten from my peer workshop and use it as comments to my blog. I thought I created an original idea and is easier for views to go through my portfolio. I also become creative in using my observation notes in my assignment one and two in a different style than listing out my notes for readers. I actually separated each observation notes throughout my essay so I could group out the separate days I visited my figured world and the various types of actors that resides in them.
Comparing the work I have done in this class to other classes, I think the annotations on the Bartlett and Holland reading, the Straubb reading, and mapping out the assignments will help me achieve in other classes. Going through assignments really help me in understanding what I needed to do, so if I did this in my computer science class and map out each piece of the program that I need to do, than I would spend less time being confused in what I need to accomplish. Annotating the readings, will help me in my upcoming LBST class where I have to read multiple books. If I can annotate that ridiculously hard to read Bartlett and Holland essay, I feel that I can understand the readings I will read in Western Cultures.
The main assignment that I felt I did well on is the Assignment Three Video project. I spent multiple hours editing, adding special effects, taking a lot of videos, and watching the video a hundred times to feel that I did good work. I feel that if I didn’t make a perfect score on that video, than I would make multiple copies of it and delete it over and over again because the video probably sucked!
On the other hand, what I think I should have put more work in was the presentation presenting my portfolio. Even though I wrote down what I was going to say and memorized it over and over, I still forgot everything I wrote and had to talk like a bamboo about nothing in front of my peers. I feel if I took another week, than I would feel better talking about my portfolio and present my many successful Assignments and Homework post.
On of the assignments I would really want to revise is this portfolio! I went back and forth thinking if I should use weebly or wix. I think wix would have been a lot cooler if I knew how to use it. I think my website needs more appeal because the only fancy effect on the portfolio is the many different colors in each section. I would also want to add more pictures and took more time in organizing my homework/ forum post. But I feel like my design was okay because I had a good quote that went along with the cities.
All in all, I think I have succeeded in this class because my writing has evolved and will keep on evolving as I take on my next English course. My essays have definitely prepared me for other upcoming essays and I know the weakness I had in my past essays will not be the same weaknesses that I will have in my future essays. As I was polishing my work, I thought it was easy going back adding more examples and paragraphs because I practically knew all the material very well. It was hard at first because it was already hard trying to create a whole essay and now I have to try to add on to it. By going back on my teacher’s comments that were helpful, I corrected my grammar, added more detail to the places I didn’t describe very well, and put in some ideas I got from my peer’s writing. After seeing each essay, I see a lot of improvement because my ideas develop more in each one and I felt like I had improve in the areas I was weak in.
