1. Bartlett and Holland uses the three concepts of actors, figured world, and artifacts to describe discourse community to convey would
these ideas are universal. Everybody are actors who participant through their lives giving it a true value and developing its identity.
Just like in a discourse community there are level expertise where people go through routines of labor trying to improve their literacy
in their own discourse community. Furthermore the figured world is a small concept of discourse community to show why people do
what they do. For example figured world shows why in discourse communities people have their own way of communicating and their
own type of genre. In discourse communities there are special text used, this is the same idea as having an artifact. An artifact
shows how something has value in the community and gets the community an identity also because people will acknowledge where
that special text came from.
2. One discourse community from the office would be the "Gamers." These are the people who take the figured world office and turn it
into a game to rid themselves of their boredom. The actors that give values to these games would be Kevin, Oscar, Toby, Pam and
Jim. Kevin has his eating contest, Oscar created paper football, toby has "dundar ball", Jim and Pam created the paper box race. The
main artifacts conveyed to the gamers would be the medals made of paper clips that show the accomplishments of the gamers who
won and show them they have an identity in the figured world or known as the office.

Figured Worlds: A socially produced and culturally made place where actors and agents can express themselves and also be
recognized. The figured world is open to many different types of interpretation to different actors.
